This is required when installing a CSL airbox on an M3 with an SMG transmission. The expansion tank holds the hydraulic fluid for the SMG clutch cylinder.

You may require the Genuine BMW S54 E46 M3 CSL SMG Expansion Tank Bracket to mount the tank.
